Governing Body Statement

Our school continues to grow, not only by welcoming many new children into the school but in the range and quality of what the school has to offer. The great teaching, leadership, pastoral and cultural experience provided is embedded in the school which means that we can be sure the children are getting an excellent educational experience. Our adoption of the Rights Respecting Curriculum, our work with Hampshire Gardens Trust and our ever-growing Forest School sessions have all added to the rich curriculum that we deliver to all children. We continue to receive superb reports from the Local Authority and our school is often used as an example of excellence.

Our governing body are very dedicated and bring such a wide range of skills. Please do take the time to have a look on the governor page of the website to see who we are.

The governing body have three core functions, which are outlined below:

1 Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.

Our ethos remains to be an inclusive school where children develop to be creative, caring and confident learners in the school of choice for people in the catchment area. Our School Improvement Plan sets out how we would like the school to continue to develop and grow to provide the best outcomes for the children.

2 Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils and the performance management of staff.

Educational performance and progression are of high importance. We are focused on making sure that all children have the resources and a high standard of teaching to ensure that they reach their full ability whilst enjoying a varied curriculum.

We are always delighted by the confidence and resilience that our children show and they should all be proud of the way they work together.

The teachers, support and office staff, have obviously been key in facilitating this achievement and our strong staff team are a credit to the school.

3 Oversee the financial performance of the school and make sure its money is well spent.

The school’s financial year starts in April and is subject to continuing high levels of monitoring and management to ensure best use of all budget allocations.

We have worked innovatively over the last few years and the school is now in a stronger financial position as a result. This means that we can provide further resources to support all children in the school.

Strategic Monitoring

A large part of the governing role is to visit the school and make observations that inform our core functions. We always have a full and varied programme of planned visits, looking at many aspects of school life. We are always made to feel welcome and especially enjoy speaking to the children. They really do ‘tell it like it is’ and their insight is a great help.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all governors for the work they put in on a voluntary basis through thick and thin, it’s not the easiest task.

We would also like to thank all the staff in the school for continuing to give the children an outstanding educational experience and the best start in life.

Lastly, thank you to all our parents and carers for supporting the school so fully. Our PTA is very active within school and without their innovative ideas, commitment and time we would not be able to provide such a rich and fulfilling environment for the children.
